Manamo Reader — Terms of Use
The agreement between you and Manamo Reader.
Last updated: 21 September 2026
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Manamo Reader mobile app and web app (together, the "App"). By downloading, installing or using the App you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App. The App is provided by the developer of Manamo Reader ("we", "us"), who can be reached at support@manamo.net.
The short version. Use the App lawfully and don't abuse the AI features. AI output can be wrong — check the source before relying on it. Manamo Pro is an auto-renewing subscription billed by Apple, which you cancel in your Apple Account settings. You own your books and notes; we don't claim them. The App is provided as-is.
Your account
Some features require an account. You must provide accurate information, keep your sign-in credentials secure, and are responsible for activity under your account. You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age of digital consent where you live if that is higher. You may delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete Account, which permanently erases your data as described in the Privacy Policy.
Manamo Pro subscriptions
- Manamo Pro is an auto-renewing subscription. The price, billing period and any introductory or trial offer are shown in the App before you purchase, in your local currency.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your Apple Account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the period ending.
- Manage or cancel your subscription in Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions on your device. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period; access continues until then.
- If a free trial is offered, any unused portion is forfeited when you buy a subscription.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store terms, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Deleting your Manamo account does not cancel an App Store subscription; cancel it separately.
- We may change subscription pricing or the features included in a plan. Price changes apply from your next renewal, and Apple will notify you and seek consent where required.
- Subscriptions are sold through the App Store on iOS. Pro applies to your account, so it is recognised when you sign in to the web app, but it cannot be purchased there.
Manamo Pro currently includes a substantially larger AI allowance, a larger weekly allowance for chapter illustrations, and cloud sync of your library, highlights and reading progress across devices. Which features are included in Pro can change, as can the size of any allowance; the plan is a subscription to the app as it stands from time to time, not to a fixed feature list. Without a subscription the app remains usable — you can read, study, and use AI features within the free allowance — but your library stays on the device you added it to.
Usage limits and fair use
AI features cost real money to run, so both free and paid accounts are subject to usage limits and rate limits that we may adjust to keep the service sustainable and to prevent abuse. A subscription grants a substantially larger allowance, not unlimited or guaranteed capacity. We may suspend or throttle accounts that circumvent limits, automate requests, or place disproportionate load on the service.
Allowances run over rolling windows and recover as those windows pass; we do not promise a specific number of requests, and we may adjust the windows and their size. Separately from your own allowance, the service as a whole has a capacity ceiling, so an AI feature can be temporarily unavailable even when your allowance is not exhausted. Cached results and offline features, such as the built-in dictionary, do not consume an allowance.
AI features and their limits
Definitions, explanations, chapter guides, recaps, quick looks, generated flashcards, quizzes, illustrations and narration are produced by third-party language and speech models. Such output may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated or misleading, and identical requests may produce different results. You are responsible for verifying anything you rely on. The App keeps the original source one tap away for exactly this reason. Individual AI features may be unavailable, withdrawn, or limited to certain platforms — narration is currently switched off, and some reader features are unavailable on the web app.
AI output is not professional advice. In particular, material surfaced from research sources such as PubMed and arXiv is research literature, not medical, legal or financial advice, and must not be used to make health or investment decisions. Do not use the App for any purpose where inaccurate output could cause harm.
Your content
You keep all rights to the books you import and the highlights, notes, flashcards and chats you create ("Your Content"). You grant us only the limited licence needed to operate the service — to store, transmit, sync and process Your Content to deliver the features you use, including sending the relevant portion to model providers when you invoke an AI feature. We do not use Your Content to train models, and we do not sell it. Cloud storage of Your Content is part of the Pro sync feature; if you do not subscribe, keep your own copies, because content held only on one device is not backed up by us. You are responsible for having the right to import and use the files you add.
Third-party content
Discover retrieves books, papers and articles from public sources including Project Gutenberg, arXiv, PubMed and publisher feeds. That material belongs to its respective rights holders and is provided subject to their own terms and licences. We do not control it, do not warrant its accuracy, and are not responsible for it. PubMed data is courtesy of the U.S. National Library of Medicine; NLM does not endorse this app.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the App unlawfully, or to infringe anyone's intellectual property or privacy;
- import or distribute material you do not have the right to use;
- attempt to extract, resell or redistribute the App's AI capacity, or use it as a general-purpose model API;
- generate content that is illegal, harassing, hateful, or sexually explicit material involving minors;
- reverse engineer, decompile, or interfere with the App or our servers, or bypass authentication, quotas or entitlement checks;
- use automated means to access the service except as we expressly permit.
Our intellectual property
The App itself — its software, design, name and branding — belongs to us and is licensed to you, not sold. Subject to these Terms, you receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service, and on the web.
Availability and changes
We may modify, suspend or discontinue features at any time, including AI features that depend on third-party providers. We aim to give notice of material changes but cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability. If we discontinue the service entirely, we will aim to give reasonable notice before doing so.
Termination
You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms, or where required by law. Provisions that by their nature should survive — ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability and governing law — survive termination.
Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free, or that AI output will be accurate or suitable for your purposes.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of the App. Our total liability for any claim relating to the App is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or USD 50. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
Apple
These Terms are between you and us, not with Apple, and Apple is not responsible for the App or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App. If the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim relating to the App, including product liability, regulatory non-compliance, consumer protection, or third-party intellectual property claims. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a terrorist-supporting country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government restricted-parties list.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be reflected in the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notified in the App. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of New York, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and the courts located there have exclusive jurisdiction — except that if you are a consumer, you keep the benefit of any mandatory protections and the right to bring proceedings in the country where you live.
